A travel engagement ring is a second, lower-cost ring you wear on trips, at the beach or at the gym, so your engagement ring can stay safely at home. Most people choose one close to their original in shape, metal and size, so it fits the same and reads the same on the hand.
Why are travel engagement rings popular now?
Interest has grown quickly. In Google Trends, "travel engagement ring" was one of the rising searches related to "engagement ring" in the United States over the 12 months to October 2026, up 500% (Google Trends). The idea is simple: a ring you would not be devastated to lose, worn where loss, damage or theft is more likely.
Should I travel with my engagement ring?
It depends on the trip and on how the ring is covered. If a trip involves a lot of swimming, sport or crowded places, decide before you pack whether you are comfortable wearing your ring there. Before you go, check how your policy covers jewelry away from home; our jewelry insurance guide explains what standard policies limit. If either answer makes you uneasy, a travel ring is the easy fix.
What should a travel ring be made of?
- A lab-grown diamond ring. It is a real diamond: the FTC defines a diamond as "a mineral consisting essentially of pure carbon crystallized in the isometric system" and its guidance covers laboratory-created diamonds that have "essentially the same optical, physical, and chemical properties as mined diamonds," disclosed with words like "laboratory-grown" (16 CFR 23.12). It looks and wears like your original, at a lower price.
- A look-alike stone. Moissanite and cubic zirconia cost less again, but they are not diamonds and look different in the light; our moissanite vs. diamond guide shows how.
- A plain or simple band. The lowest-risk choice for a trip built around water and sport.
How much does a travel engagement ring cost?
For a lab-grown diamond ring, the prices in our own catalog give a real range. As listed on October 21, 2026, our lab-grown diamond rings ran from $899.99 for a 1.60ct ring to $3,309.99 for a 4.08ct ring, with a 1.12ct TW ring at $949.99 and a 3.00ct ring at $2,349.99. Lab-grown eternity bands ran from $949.99 (1.63ct TW) to $2,599.99 (6.50ct TW). See the current range in our lab-grown diamond rings.
Should my travel ring match my engagement ring?
Match the size first, so it fits like your own ring, then the metal and the outline. A round solitaire is the easiest look to echo; an unusual center shape or a vintage setting is harder to find ready-made. If you want a close match, our custom design process builds a 3D model you can adjust before anything is cast. Our guide to lab-grown diamonds covers how they compare with mined stones.
