Custom Jewelry Design
Engagement rings, wedding bands and fine jewelry designed with you, from a first sketch to a finished piece.
Prestige Diamonds designs custom engagement rings, wedding bands and fine jewelry at our showroom on Route 4 in Paramus. A custom piece starts with a conversation, moves through sketches and a 3D CAD model you can adjust before any metal is cast, and is then cast, hand-finished and set.
What to Expect
The consultation
We ask how the piece will be worn day to day, whether a stone or family piece is involved, and what styles you like. A loose reference such as "vintage but not fussy" or a photo of a ring you liked is enough to start. This is also when we talk about budget, because it shapes the design.
Sketches and CAD
A designer sketches the first concepts. Once you pick a direction it is built as a 3D CAD model, so you can see and adjust band width, stone height and prong style before anything is made. Most changes happen here, where they are quick to make.
Casting and setting
After you approve the design, the piece is cast in your chosen metal, hand-finished by a jeweler, and the stones are set one by one.
Final fitting
The finished piece is sized, polished and inspected before it goes home with you.
What shapes the cost and the timeline
Three things drive the price of a custom piece more than anything else: the metal (platinum costs more than 14K or 18K gold), the stone (using a stone you already own keeps costs down, while sourcing a new center stone adds cost and time), and the complexity of the design (a clean solitaire takes less work than pavé, filigree or a cluster).
A straightforward custom piece typically takes three to five weeks from consultation to completion, and more complex designs or pieces built around a newly sourced stone can take six to eight weeks. If you have a date in mind, such as a proposal or an anniversary, tell us at the first consultation and we will confirm a timeline that works.
Resetting a family stone into a new design is one of the most common requests we see, and it is often more affordable than starting from raw materials because part of the value is already there.
From Our Google Reviews
“Michele is the absolute best! We went there for our engagement and wedding rings and she did an amazing job! She kept in contact with me during the whole process. We had heirlooms as well and she did everything we wanted and more. I was floored by how my engagement ring looked when we got it; I get constant compliments on it. Highly recommend Michele and everyone at Prestige Jewelers! We will always go back there!”
“Amazing Professional knowledgeable workers. I actually had a custom Piece made the outcome aces across the board. I highly recommend prestige jewelry for your next purchase.”
Questions We Hear Often
Do I need a finished design before I come in?
No. Most custom pieces start from a few references or a photo of something you liked. The consultation and the CAD stage are where the design takes shape.
Can you reset a family stone or rework an heirloom?
Yes. Resetting a family diamond or gemstone into a more current design is one of our most common custom requests. The stone stays the same and the band, halo or side stones are rebuilt around it.
How much does a custom piece cost?
It depends on the metal, the stone and how detailed the design is. Call us at (201) 488-4280 or book a consultation and we will talk through options for your budget.
How long does it take?
Typically three to five weeks for a straightforward piece and six to eight weeks for a complex design or a newly sourced stone. We confirm the timeline at your consultation.
