We resize rings and repair fine jewelry at our showroom on Route 4 in Paramus. The work we see most often is ring sizing, prong retipping and rebuilding, stone tightening, clasp replacement, chain soldering and rhodium replating for white gold. Bring the piece in, or call us to describe it.

What to Expect

  1. Ring sizing

Most rings are sized by cutting the band, adjusting its length and re-soldering the seam, then polishing the join until it disappears. Plain bands and most solitaires are simple to size. Rings with pavé or detail all the way around take more care, and full eternity bands and some tension settings are limited or cannot be resized.

  2. Prongs and stones

Prongs wear down slowly from everyday contact. Retipping or rebuilding them, and tightening loose stones, is the most common repair we do, and it is best done early, before a stone is at risk.

  3. Clasps and chains

Clasp replacement on necklaces and bracelets and re-soldering broken chains are among our most frequent requests.

  4. Rhodium replating

White gold is usually plated with rhodium for its bright white finish. The plating wears thin with daily wear over one to two years, and replating restores the original color without changing the piece.

Turnaround and when not to wait

Simple resizing and prong tightening are often same-day or next-day work. Bigger repairs, such as full prong rebuilds, clasp replacement or resizing a heavily detailed band, typically take one to two weeks. We give you a time when we see the piece, and if you have a deadline, tell us up front.

Some repairs should not wait. If a stone moves or rattles when you gently tap the ring near your ear, stop wearing it and bring it in. A prong that looks thinner or flatter than the others around the same stone is also worth checking quickly.

If a ring has been resized or repaired many times, a new setting can be the sounder choice than another patch, because a band that has been cut and re-soldered repeatedly weakens at the seam.

Questions We Hear Often

How long does a ring resize take?

A simple resize is often same-day or next-day. Rings with stones or detail around the band take longer. We give you a time when we see the ring.

Can every ring be resized?

Most can. Plain bands, solitaires and rings with stones only at the top are straightforward. Rings with pavé around the band take more work, and full eternity bands and some tension settings are limited or cannot be resized.

Do you repair jewelry that was bought somewhere else?

Call us at (201) 488-4280 and tell us about the piece, and we will let you know.

Why is my white gold ring turning yellow?

White gold is plated with rhodium, and the plating wears thin over one to two years of daily wear. Rhodium replating brings back the white finish.
