About Gold Prices
What is the gold spot price?
The spot price is the market price for one troy ounce of pure gold for immediate delivery. Jewelry is valued from it by weight and purity: 14K gold, for example, is 58.3% gold, so a gram of 14K is worth 58.3% of the pure gold price per gram.
How many grams are in a troy ounce?
One troy ounce is 31.10348 grams, the conversion NIST gives in its guide to units. Precious metals are priced per troy ounce, which is heavier than the everyday ounce. NIST SP 811, Appendix B
How often do these prices update?
They come from a live market feed and this page refreshes them every minute while it is open, so the figures are never more than a couple of minutes old.
Is this what a jeweler will pay for my gold?
No. These are spot prices for pure metal. An offer for jewelry is based on the metal it contains and is below that value because gold has to be tested and refined. Our calculator shows the metal value of your pieces, and we test and weigh them in front of you.
