We clean and inspect jewelry at our showroom on Route 4 in Paramus. We recommend a professional cleaning at least twice a year: it brings back the sparkle that everyday wear dulls, and it is the moment a jeweler checks every prong and setting, so a loose stone is caught before it becomes a repair.
What to Expect
Cleaning
Professional cleaning uses ultrasonic and steam cleaning to lift the lotion, soap and dirt that build up under a stone and behind the setting, where a toothbrush cannot reach.
Prong and setting check
Each prong and setting is checked for wear. Prongs thin gradually from daily contact, and catching it early is far simpler than replacing a lost stone.
A simple care schedule
Monthly: a gentle soak at home in warm water with a little mild dish soap, brushed with a very soft toothbrush. Every six months: a professional cleaning and prong inspection. Once a year: a full professional inspection, and a good time to update any insurance appraisal.
Avoid harsh household chemicals, which can damage metals and dull stones, and store each piece in its own soft pouch or compartment, since diamonds can scratch other jewelry.
